One engaged research project on a civic or community problem or issue

This may be done individually or as a group. To complete this achievement, you should identify a civic or community problem or issue, research the legal, social, and/or political aspects of that problem or issue, explain the range of possible solutions that exist, and recommend the most favorable ones, from your research-informed perspective. Include strategies for moving toward the most favorable solutions -- what would be needed in terms of public information, policy change, or other interventions, and how might those be undertaken. It is recommended that you choose an issue that is meaningful to you, and that you consider, in your reflection, whether and how you might actually undertake steps toward a solution. Students should gain insight into a significant civic or community problem, and into the challenges and conditions affecting efforts to solve that problem. Their reflection should effectively communicate the issue, the conditions, the challenges, the range of solutions, and the reasons for their preference for one solution over others.
