Reflective Blog during Study Abroad/Away

This requirement offers an opportunity to write or record orally your ongoing experiences, observations, impressions, and reflections as you spend time in a culture different from your own, or undertake intensive study in an unfamiliar context. For some students, a series of artistic representations with commentary would be an effective format. The main point is to keep some kind of record of experiences and to reflect on them as you go. A summative or overarching reflection should culminate the project, reaching back to the previous entries and identifying how and why those experiences have been significant to you in your development as a student, scholar, citizen, and global leader. This project requires that you contemplate how to convey your experiences to others, selecting what to include, organizing your thoughts and ideas, and presenting them effectively, and expressing how you are affected by these experiences. It is a tool for making your learning and development visible and recognizable to yourself and to others.

Written reflection on Study Abroad/Away experience

Your blog culminated with a summative or overarching reflection that reached back to the previous entries and identified how and why those experiences have been significant to you in your development as a student, scholar, citizen, and global leader. The project as a whole required that you contemplate how to convey your experiences to others, selecting what to include, organizing your thoughts and ideas, and presenting them effectively, and expressing how you are affected by these experiences. It is a tool for making your learning and development visible and recognizable to yourself and to others. For this reflection, which should be written after you return, but while the experience is still fresh (within 1 month), may build on that culminating blog entry, considering it anew from a slight distance. Edit, develop, or alter that entry to focus more clearly and effectively on your increased global understanding, experience, skills, and capabilities. In particular, explain how you would discuss the implications of that experience in an interview for a job or other post-graduation opportunity.

Class Project with Global Theme or Component

Choose a project that represents your best work on a global concern or conditions, and provide a link to that project. Additionally, write a 1-page summary of your main points or findings, making them understandable to a broader audience who may not be academic, may not have much information about the issues addressed, etc. This part of the assignment is a step in the process of presenting your work to the public, and translating your ideas across contexts and audiences.
