Description

This credential is given to individuals who have completed the seminar work required by the certification program. In order to complete this section of the program you must provide evidence of completing the sub-requirements below. Please follow the instructions contained within each item.

Criteria

The recipient of this competency area has completed the requirements:

  • Enroll in an approved course on teaching (1-3 credits)

This requirement allows students to choose a course that is focused on teaching and learning or a non-credit series focused on teaching at the collegiate level.

  • Documentation of Additional Disciplinary Teaching/Curriculum Development Courses

This is an opportunity to list the additional courses on teaching, curriculum development, or other pedagogical issues that you have taken during your time at MSU.

  • Reflection on Coursework

This part of the program is designed to help you bring together your experiences with coursework on teaching theory and practice. Your reflection will be part of your teaching portfolio.

Approved Course on Teaching

This part of the program allows students to focus on teaching and learning at the collegiate level and within their chosen discipline. Students are encouraged to enroll in a course within their program that focuses on issues of teaching and learning in their discipline or on a certain topic (e.g. AL883 Practicum in Blended and Online Learning).

Additional Disciplinary Teaching/Curriculum Development Courses

This is an opportunity to list the additional courses on teaching, curriculum development, or other pedagogical issues that you have taken during your time at MSU. In most programs you will have taken a course focused on teaching in your discipline, however, we ask you to think more deeply about your experience with coursework and list courses where you had focus (even if for a short time) on teaching.

Reflection on Coursework

This part of the program is designed to help you bring together your experiences with coursework on teaching theory and practice. The reflection will help you to make sense of your different coursework on the topic, and allow you to make connections between these courses in ways that help you to see any focal areas or other spaces where pedagogies and your interests intersect. Your reflection will be part of your teaching portfolio.
