Learn moreJob shadow or workshop/seminar at a community organization
This experience will expose you to the daily operation of a community organization or an organization related to your major or career objectives. It may be part of an extended internship, or it may be a shorter-duration experience. The aim is for you to gain exposure to and understanding of that organization's structure, employee functions, short-term and long-term planning processes, policy-making practices, etc. This experience should broaden and deepen your knowledge about the way leaders of community organizations and other businesses operate, and allow you to recognize how you might become equipped to take up such a role in the future.
Professional Networking Workshop
This requirement is met within the AL 101 course, if you are present at the meeting led by our Field Career Services Coordinator (Career Services). The purpose is to provide you with basic information about practices, habits, and preparation pertinent to your professional development. Offered as part of AL 101 each year. For students who do not complete the requirement in AL 101, the Career Services Coordinator will provide a make-up session.
Serve as a peer mentor to another aspiring Citizen Scholar
This requirement is part of your development of professional capabilities; it is also a means to give back to the program and support its goals and objectives by supporting students who follow in your footsteps. To complete this requirement, you will be matched with 3-4 incoming students and serve as a guide and consultant -- a 'big brother or sister' -- to those students. This mentoring is mainly geared toward sustaining the program itself.
You will also provide a reflection on the mentoring experience near the end of your CS program.
